Good, but July 14, 2010 Brewer (Chapel Hill, NC) I bought this netbook about a month ago.
It delivers good performance. It connects quickly and easily to wireless sites.
It's great value for a 250g hard drive.
And most amazingly the stated battery life appears correct- I have no problem with consistent 7 or 8 hours of battery availability.
I don't find Windows 7 Starter a problem though I would have preferred full XP or Vista, which I have on a Toshiba laptop.
The size and ease of carry is wonderful. I now don't know how I lugged the Toshiba laptop around with me in the past.
But the "touch pad" is difficult to master, I find it annoying. I now carry a small "mouse" with the computer to offset the built in pad.
It also takes some extra effort and care to get used to the smaller keyboard.
And while the video camera is great I really would like to find a way to get it out of the way and off the screen. So far I am unable to do so.
Overall an impressive piece of equipment. And for the money, I remain convinced-hard to beat.
Reliability was great-out of the box. It's as close to "plug and play" as I can imagine.
Some good thought went into this but like anything there will be some features that cause some people difficulties.
Gateway Net book June 12, 2010 Hector A. Almodovar (Long Island) It is a great little netbook for the price. Loved it at first. 3 Weeks later, the screen went bad. Everything else was fine. I called Adorama but they only would take it back after 14 days only. THey told me to call GAteway. Gateway was very helpfuL and courteous. THey sent me a free shipping label via email to send the netbook to a Acer repair in Texas. Shipping is free both ways and they said they will repair it. I am awaiting it. I loved all the features and I hope the screen was only a temporary problem.
great value for the money May 27, 2010 W. Reddish (Salisbury, MD United States) This is a great value and a very handy tool. I no longer travel with my bulky and heavy laptop. I did upgrade the RAM to 2gb and the Windows 7 to premium. I highly recommend both upgrades.
You cannot go wrong in buying this. April 7, 2010 J. Herman I purchased this for $279.99 from Amazon just over a week ago. Turned it on and within 90seconds I am on the internet. I am planning just to get avast because its free but Norton that is on it is fine, no viruses or problems so far. The webcam is a great addition, have not had the chance to use the bluetooth, however the card reader is excellent. I went out of town with my camera and was able to take the pictures from my camera and upload them to my computer.
I have charged my netbook twice or three times in a week. It is great that you can easily turn down the backlight (use it on low because on high it is too bright and drains the battery quickly). And if I am not using the internet I simply turn off the wireless and the battery life shoots up. I am happy with the Hibernate feature, it takes less than a minute to get powered up, may be around 30 seconds. The windows 7 snap feature - probably the only thing I saw from the commercial is amazing. Having 2 windows (even though very small on the screen) is great when comparing websites or surfing simultaneously.
Good luck!
THE LITTLE RED BEAST April 6, 2010 BAKERBOY81 (SHAFTER CA) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
THIS NET BOOK IT GOOD BUT NOT GREAT... IF YOU NEED A NET BOOK FOR SURFING THE WEB,EMAILS,AND SKYPING HAVE AT IT. THE KEYBOARD ON THIS NET BOOK IS VERY SMALL.I LIKE THE KEYBOARD ON THE DELL MINI. THE PALM REST IS JUST A LITTLE SHORT. THE LITTLE WEB CAM IS THE BEST PART OF THIS LITTLE BEAST. ITS CLEAR, GREAT QUALITY. DON'T GET ME WRONG THIS IS A GOOD NET BOOK BUT IF YOU HAVE LARGE MAN HANDS,ITS NOT THE ONE FOR YOU. THE WEB SURFING IS QUICK AND THE BLUETOOTH IS GREAT. PAIR IT UP WITH YOUR PHONE AND TRANSFER FILES MUSIC AND MORE.THE SCREEN IS NICE AND BRIGHT BUT IT WILL EAT UP YOUR BATTERY LIFE IF YOU HAVE IT TOO BRIGHT. IT GETS LOTS OF FINGER PRINTS BUT THAT ON BIG DEAL. OH YEAH ALSO IF YOU WANNA CHANGE YOUR DESKTOP,TO BAD YOU CAN'T WINDOWS 7 STARTER WON'T LET YOU. THAT WAS A BIG DEAL FOR ME. YOU WILL GET ABOUT 6-7 HOURS OF BATTERY LIFE EVEN IT THEY TELL YOU EIGHT. I HAVE IT ON THE LOWEST BATTERY SETTING AND STILL DON'T GET 8 HOURS. ALL IN ALL IT A GOOD NET
